The Graduate English Organization of Truman State University is proud to
announce the call for papers for their annual conference April 10-11,
2009!

Our speaker this year will be author extraordinaire Mary Ruefle, who has
published several books of poetry and prose as well as a comic book.
Inspired by her unique work A Little White Shadow, our conference is
entitled “Obliterature: The Art of Creative Destruction.” We are
looking for presentations, creative and scholarly, that deal with the
breaking down of culture and art, the imaginative implosions within the
written word, or simply those ideas that are not just out of the box but
crush it.

We especially welcome presentations dealing with:
• Omission or inclusion
• “Found” or “recycled” work
• Avant-garde
• Innovation/Invention
• Experimentation
• Ownership
• Originality
• Creativity
• Anything not on this list

If you’d like to do a creative presentation of displaying your art works,
describe the collection in your proposal and be sure to note specifically
what kind of art it is (sculpture, painting, etc.), including pictures if
possible. We also encourage creative presentations involving
theatre/performing arts, poetry, and prose.

Send your proposal (no attachments unless they are pictures, please) of
no more than 250 words to tsack_at_truman.edu by midnight on November 30,
2008. Please make sure that you note your name and preferred e-mail
address in your submission as well as whether you are planning a creative
or scholarly presentation. Write “GEO conference proposal” in the
subject line of the e-mail. Acceptance notifications will be sent out by
early January 2009. We cannot give out funds for travel/lodging
expenses.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
