GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE

In conjunction with this year's annual conference, the Pacific Northwest
Renaissance Society is pleased to announce the creation of the PNRS
Award for Graduate Scholarship.

This award has been instituted to recognize excellence in scholarly
writing at the graduate level; it entails a $250.00 cash prize and the
opportunity to present a paper at the Renaissance Society of America's
annual conference.

To be eligible for the award, candidates must be enrolled in a program
of graduate study in the greater Northwest region (i.e. British
Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Oregon, Washington, Alaska,
Idaho, California, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming). Candidates must also
submit a scholarly essay (5,000-20,000 words), which will be used as the
basis for a presentation at the annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest
Renaissance Conference and subsequently at the annual meeting of the
Renaissance Society of America. The deadline for proposals for this
year's PNRS meeting is February 15, 2004; the full manuscript of any
essay competing for the award must be submitted for evaluation by March
15, 2004. Manuscripts should not identify the author except on an
accompanying title page, and they should be mailed to Marc Geisler, PNRS
