History of Critical Reception: "Media and Reception"
Abstract deadline: April 15

This session will explore media interventions in readers' reception of
literature. How has mass communication (radio, print journalism, television,
or film) historically and more recently shaped meaning making? How do new
media (electronic/post-digital communication) affect conditions for
construction, reception, or rejection of texts? In what ways do readers use
media to form interpretive or literacy communities across gender, age,
education, culture, and geography, among other boundaries?

We welcome papers that examine:

Virtual, textual, and cinematic audiences
The reception of e-books and blooks
The cultural translation of literature into film, performance art, or other
Historical or current serialized fiction
The formation of book clubs and other reading communities as facilitated by
electronic or other media
