Call for Papers

This international conference is being held to celebrate the
quatercentenary of the birth of John Milton (1608-1674). Papers (30-40
minutes) are invited on aspects of Milton's life and works; his
relationship with the major political events of his time; his interest in
and engagement with science; the larger history of Tudor and Stuart
religion; and politics and aesthetic practices in relation to Milton's
writings. In order to draw upon different strands in Milton scholarship,
the conference is not restricted to a single topic or theme: -however, in
selecting papers we will try to work out general themes under which the
individual papers can be coherently grouped.

The seminar is being hosted by the Centre for Advanced Studies in the
Department of English, Jadavpur University. We are not, because of
university regulations, able to fund international travel: however, we
may be able to offer some assistance towards travel in India and local
hospitality.

Dates: 17, 18, 19 January, 2008
