“The Disgusting in Early Modern English Drama,†ed. Georgia E. Brown,
Mathew Martin and Sarah Scott
We invite submissions for an essay collection on the disgusting in early
modern English drama, including such playwrights as Marlowe, Marston,
Middleton and Jonson. We welcome a plurality of theoretical approaches,
including but not restricted to Bakhtinian, cultural materialist,
feminist, psychoanalytical and performance-oriented approaches. We are
particularly interested in essays that address the matter of disgust in
relation to what Norbert Elias has called the “civilizing process†in
general and to the process of civilizing urban spaces and bodies in
particular. Please send 500-word proposals and a brief bio or c.v. to
Mathew Martin at mmartin_at_brocku.ca as Word or *.rtf attachments by June
30, 2008.
