CFP: [Renaissance] Special Edition of Shakespeare Bulletin
Forthcoming Special Edition
“Shakespeare, Race, and Performanceâ€
Guest Editor, Ayanna Thompson
Ayanna Thompson, guest editor of the forthcoming, special edition of
Shakespeare Bulletin, “Shakespeare, Race, and Performance,†seeks essays
that examine the complex relationships between contemporary Shakespearean
productions, casting practices, and the politics and performances of race.
Essays may analyze the notion(s) of Shakespeare, race, and performance
through diverse theoretical and methodological angles. In addition, essays
may analyze Shakespearean performances in broad terms, including
traditional stage and film productions and remediated productions, such as
televisual allusions, internet mash-ups, etc. As a whole, the essays
included in the special edition will demonstrate the various ways that
race, and racialized performances, can be addressed in Shakespearean (con)
texts and performances. In addition, the essays will not only articulate
the need to include practical and theoretical discussions about
performances of race in Shakespearean productions, but also demonstrate
the disparate ways these discussions can be articulated.
Essays are due to Ayanna Thompson by September 1, 2008 at the latest.
