7-8 November 2008

     The Department of English at Saint Anselm College will mark the
fourth centenary of the birth of John Milton with an academic conference
on the continuing relevance of his work. In addition to sessions on
Milton’s major and minor literary works, the conference will feature:

• A Keynote address by Barbara K. Lewalski, William R. Kenan, Jr.,
Professor of History and Literature and of English Literature, Harvard
University

• A Keynote address by Thomas H. Luxon, Professor of English, and
Cheheyl Professor and Director of the Dartmouth Center for the
Advancement of Learning at Dartmouth College

• English Inspirations, a concert of musical selections based on
Milton’s poetry, presented in collaboration with the Fine Arts Department
and the Alva deMars Megan Chapel Art Center

• “But O How Fall’n”, A Semi-Staged Reading of selections from
Milton’s poetry and prose
