Welcome to Harlot, a digital magazine and web forum where you can…
â€¢ view art inspired by gaming culture
â€¢ critique a political speech through a mock interview
â€¢ post comments on a short film about green architecture
â€¢ compose a collaborative review of a popular documentary
â€¢ publish an experimental poem about social-networking sites
â€¢ engage in meaningful, open-ended, and non-partisan conversations about rhetoric in
        everyday life.

Rhetoric has a bad reputation these days; the word is hurled as an insult to imply fancy
arguments and manipulation. But by definition, rhetoric simply refers to the arts of persuasion
we all use to influence audiences every day. All communicationâ€"from reality TV to public
monuments, religion to pop musicâ€"is rhetorical. Harlot offers a space to participate in
promiscuous explorations the real social, personal, cultural, and political powers of rhetoric in its
diverse forms.

Harlot invites adventurous critics, artists, and thinkers to engage these concerns in innovative
and creative ways. In addition to traditional articles, we allow and encourage multimedia texts
that exploit the rich rhetorical potential of hypertext, still images, animation, video, and audio.
Whatever the form, share your brilliant insights, favorite rants, and pet theories… for pleasure
with a purpose.

What we're looking for:
â€¢ Significance: point or value for public audiences
â€¢ Personality: creativity, humor, self-conscious attention to your own rhetoric
â€¢ Ethics: responsible consideration of others' beliefs, values, and backgrounds
â€¢ Accessibility: suitability of style for a diverse readership
