Concepts of ‘I’ - ‘Self’ - ‘Subject(ivity’) in Literature and Literary
Theory. [Publication and Conference]

---> Submissions beginning NOW; Deadline: 15 August 2008

---> Date of Publication: April 2009

---> Date of Conference: 17 April â€" 20 April 2009, Vienna

We welcome approximately 40 essays of interest to those concerned with the
study of key concepts, both, in literature and literary studies: ‘I’ â€"
‘self’ â€" ‘Subject(ivity)’

We are looking particularly for contributions on various topics in literary
studies, literary theory and philosophy of literature answering to the
publication's subject matter.

We welcome papers examining the issue of ‘I’ â€" ‘self’ â€" ‘Subject(ivity)’
from either practical perspectives, or based on foregrounded theoretical
assumptions, as well as papers concerning single authors or comparative
views. We are especially interested in papers taking polemical positions
concerning the relationship between poetic forms and content and
cultural/philosophic thought.

Articles of fewer than 12,000 words or more than 25,000 words are not
considered for publication. The word count includes notes but excludes
works-cited lists and translations, which should accompany foreign language

Each article submitted is send to two reviewers. Articles recommended by
these readers are then sent to the members of the Editorial Board, who meet
in late October 2008 to make final decisions. Until a final decision is
reached, the author's name is not made known to consultant readers and the
Editorial Board. Because the submission of an article simultaneously to
more than one refereed project can result in duplication of the demanding
task of reviewing the manuscript, it is our policy not to review articles
that are under consideration elsewhere. We also accept parts of unpublished

The publication will appear in two volumes; followed by a conference in
Vienna, in April 2009. As a result of generous financial support given by
institutional and public donators, we are able to cover all expenses
related to traveling to and from Vienna as well as lodging and board. The
authors of accepted contributions will be equipped with flight tickets and
hotel vouchers by December 2008.

Submissions, prepared according to the “MLA Style (6th edition),” should be
sent electronically (MS Word document) to:

Please enclose a brief cv and publication list if existing. Authors of
articles are not paid but will receive 25 offprints free of charge and a
copy of the publication.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us any time.
