Proposals are sought for a College English Association (CEA) panel
tentatively titled: "British Regions: Teaching 19th-Century British
Texts." =20

The conference theme for this year's CEA conference is "Reading the
Regions/Writing the Regions/Teaching the Regions." This panel aims to
address pedagogical issues and methodology regarding the teaching of
19th-century British texts. Some possible ideas for papers include, but
are not limited to: Which authors and texts are essential in
19th-Century British literature courses? Why? How do we teach them? What
do students learn from them? What is a unique assignment and what goals
does it accomplish for students? How can narrative technique be taught?
How can 19th-Century auto/biography be used in a literature course? How
can non-canonical texts be taught? What is the role of close reading for
students in British literature courses? What skills do students learn
from close reading? What are some unique ways to encourage and assess
close reading? What writing assignments demonstrate proficiency in close
reading? How can technology be integrated into teaching British
literature? How can themes be used?

The CEA Annual Conference will be from April 6-8, 2006 in San Antonio,
Texas.

Send 300-500 word proposals for 15 minute presentations and a one-page
