18th Annual EGSA Mardi Gras Conference
Louisiana State University
January 30- February 1
Keynote Speaker: Cathy Davidson

“Globalizing Science Fiction”
The 18th annual EGSA Mardi Gras Conference invites paper for the proposed
panel, “Globalizing Science Fiction.” We are seeking 15 minute papers that
consider the movement of SF and SF criticism as it continues to escape the
trajectories of the provincial orbits that define it, particularly the
orbit of the industrialized West. Papers can range from those historical
and materialist in approach, charting the relationship between postcolonial
science fiction and globalization under capital, to those which consider
the movement and synthesis of forms, genres, themes, and worldviews which
are not traditionally associated with science fiction, and to those which
consider the mature developments of SF in the West, a maturation seemingly
marked by a return to fantasy, the weird, and horror. The papers can deal
with specific authors or general trends: we only ask that critics seek to
change the way SF is produced and read across the globe.
