MLA 2008--San Francisco: Pirandello Society Panels

Topic: Pirandellian Moods: Narrative, Film, Theatre into the Twenty-first
Century.

Arthur Livingston, an early Pirandello translator and scholar, identified
in Pirandello's works a "complex mood," a "mysterious symbolism made up
of terror, and rebellion, and pity, and human kindness." For contemporary
critics, directors, performers, spectators and writers: how do
Pirandellian extremes cross over or interlace; how does the complex mood
of Pirandello’s work resonate in the 21st century?
