Call for Proposals
April 18, 2009

The Theatre and Drama Graduate Student Organization (TDGSO) will sponsor
the Graduate Student Conference on April 18th, 2009.  In keeping with the
University of Wisconsin- Madison Theatre and Drama department's commitment
to a collaborative community where research and creative endeavors inform
and enhance one another, the theme for the conference will be "Community
Performance/Performing Community". Dr. Judith Sebesta of the University of
Missouri will give the keynote address.

The TDGSO invites a broad range of submissions that explore aspects of
community and/or performance. We welcome proposals for individual papers,
panels, roundtable sessions, workshops and performances. Practitioners and
scholars are encouraged to apply.

Possible topics include but are not limited to:

Performance as an expression of community identity
Community as a metaphor for individual agency or creative identity
International Performance communities/Performing communities internationally
Performance and/or Theatre as the voice of a community or nation
Devising community performances
Pedagogy in Performance and/or Community

Please submit a proposal of 500 words or fewer by January 18, 2009.
Include a cover page with the following information: title of proposal,
presenter’s name, university and department affiliation, and both mailing
and email addresses. TDGSO will award a limited number of $100 travel
scholarships for out-of-town applicants whose proposals are judged to best
address the conference theme. Applicants will be notified by February 18,
2009.
