New Voices Maps/Boundaries
Call for papers and special sessions

The New Voices Graduate Student Conference invites proposals considering
the presence, (de)construction, maintenance, persistence, (re)imagining
of Maps/Boundaries.

Maps and boundaries represent potentials for the identification,
containment, and governance of spatial, temporal and subject/object
positions both real (physical) and imagined (psychic.) These generative
possibilities continue to function as potent loci of identity in the
contemporary world. Historically and politically, maps and boundaries
represent constitutive anxieties about identity, security,
normativity/abjectivity and materiality. Maps and boundaries encourage
the deployment and reification of mastery and control, naming, and
imaginative transference. Disciplines as wide ranging as theology,
philosophy, literature, and history, among others, engage in the
production and imagining of maps and boundaries. We invite papers from
all academic disciplines that engage with various, discreet, general or
specific manifestations of maps/boundaries such as:

• Textual or visual representations, imaginings, creations,
disruptions or deconstructions of Maps/Boundaries
• Traditional, historical or radical diachronic/synchronic
definitions, uses, perceptions of Maps/Boundaries
• The role of history, religion, philosophy, or politics in
representations and/or constructions of Maps/Boundaries
• The university and/or classroom as coercive or subversive
effecter of Maps/Boundaries
• The role of pedagogy in creating or disrupting Maps/Boundaries
• The psychic presence of Maps/Boundaries as a creative writing
impediment or generative principle
• The effect of technology on Maps/Boundaries in the classroom
• Theoretical Maps/Boundaries
• Maps/Boundaries as intersections/interventions within academia
• The body as (re)configured (re)presented (re)constituted
Map/Boundary

Submission guidelines:
Please send a 250-300 word proposal. Creative writers need to send a few
stanzas of a long poem, an entire short poem, or one page of prose.

With the proposal, please include the title, email address, and
telephone number. Submit as a word attachment and email to New Voices at
gea_at_gsu.edu.
