Call for Papers: LGBT/Gender Studies

The LGBT/Gender Studies Area Chair of the Northeast Popular/American
Culture Association (NEPCA) seeks individual-paper proposals for
presentation at NEPCA's annual meeting, which will be held at Clark
University (Worcester, Massachusetts) October 26-27, 2007.

Submissions pertaining to any aspect of LGBT studies and/or gender
studies are desired from scholars, educators, and students at all
levels. Of particular interest are contributions that explore the
representation and/or social construction of gay men, lesbians,
bisexuals, and transgenders in various media offerings (e.g.,
intriguing films, television programs, Internet sites, comic books,
etc.) as well as reception studies pertaining to such media offerings.
Additional topics of interest include, but are certainly not limited
to, advertising images and appeals, coming-of-age narratives, HIV/AIDS,
romantic and sexual relationships, and queer theory in its various
applications. Individual presentations will be limited to
approximately 20 minutes in length.

Interested individuals are asked to submit a one-page abstract
(including presentation title) and a brief CV (containing complete
contact information) by June 15, 2007. Decisions pertaining to the
status of such proposals will be communicated within two weeks of
receipt.

Please mail or e-mail abstracts to: Kylo-Patrick Hart, Department of
Communication and Media Studies, Plymouth State University, 17 High
Street, MSC 60, Plymouth, NH 03264; krhart_at_plymouth.edu

All presenters must be members of NEPCA but may join the organization
upon acceptance of proposals. Further information about NEPCA is
available on the NEPCA Website
