CFP: [Theory] RMMLA 2008: Humor Theory

This year we seek overarching theoretical works (rather than humor as it
happens to operate in specific texts). Topics may address:
-humor theories (past, present, evolving, . . .)
-intersection of humor theories and feminism, utopian visions, ethnic
studies, gender studies, applied linguistics, narrative, reader response,
or (and especially) rhetorical theory
-potential topics?: anxieties of ethnicities, comic transcendence in
narrative play, paradoxically displaced selves, reading the world as a
joke, embod/bawdying, perfect incongruities, weird English, the impotence
to write, ghosted writing, language hygiene, . . .

The 2008 RMMLA conference will be held in downtown Reno, Nevada, from
October 9-11, 2008, at Harrah's Reno.
