Scholarly essays are sought on Eastern travelers’ encounters with the
West. Responses inflected by the author’s position as part of an Eastern
metropole, empire, and/or nation; by Eastern notions of gender,
sexuality, race, or ethnicity; and by Eastern religious or secular
worldviews are some of the topics that interest us, as do biographical
essays or translations of and commentaries on significant travel
writing. Authors should feel free to submit research on a wide variety
of genres, including expedition reports, letters, travel web sites, film,
television news or entertainment programming, biographies of travelers,
travel illustrations and related visual genres, young adult and
children’s literature, encyclopedias, textbooks, and religious texts. We
are happy to consider contemporary or historical cases, as well as
virtual, or imagined, travel. Please contact Anne R. Richards
aricha31_at_kennesaw.edu or Iraj Omidvar iomidvar_at_spsu.edu with questions.
200-word abstracts are due by December 1, 2007. Decisions will be mailed
on January 1, 2008, and final articles are due by June 1, 2008.
