CFP: Richard Hoggart (UK) (10/31/05; 4/3/06-4/5/06)
International Interdisciplinary conference on Richard Hoggart
Richard Hoggart is one of the leading thinkers and cultural critics in the
twentieth century. To mark the acquisition of his papers by the Sheffield
University Library, we are holding a conference from 3-5 April, 2006.
This marvellous research resource contains over fifty years' worth of
Richard Hoggart's papers, including typescripts, correspondence, taped
broadcasts and much other material. Hoggart's work has spanned
disciplinary boundaries. Fittingly, the conference is supported by
members of the School of English, Dept. of Educational Studies and
Dept. of Politics at Sheffield. We also have support from people in
Cultural Studies elsewhere.
Richard Hoggart himself will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers
include David Lodge, Stefan Collini, Jim McGuigan, Jon Nixon and Sue
The library will mount a special exhibition from the Hoggart archive to
coincide with the conference.
The deadline for proposals is 31.10.05. Please send proposals for 20-
minute papers on any aspect of Hoggart's work or influence to:
Dr. Sue Owen, Dept. of English Literature, University of Sheffield,
Sheffield, S10 2TN.
Every attempt will be made to accommodate early applicants who
require a decision before the closing date.
