Call for Papers:
The Politics of Culture: E. E. Cummings and Other Modernists

The E. E. Cummings Society invites abstracts for twenty-minute papers
that address Cummings' interaction with other modernists from the
broad perspective of cultural and aesthetic issues for the
Twentieth-Century Literature and Culture Conference, February 23-25,
2006, at the University of Louisville. We believe that E. E.
Cummings' modernist satirical stance, which plays a significant role
in twentieth-century literature, has not been fully explored; we
welcome papers that re-examine his poetic (or parodic) art in
relation to that of other modernists (such as Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot,
Djuna Barnes, Isak Dinesen, John Dos Passos, William Carlos Williams,
Hart Crane, Marianne Moore, and the Dial group) as a statement of
cultural politics rather than as a strict, individualistic,
aesthetics. We also welcome papers that explore such issues as how
these modernists were related to Cummings in ways of being modern and
to what extent these relationships impacted modern American culture.

Please send 250-300 word abstracts (double-spaced and titled)
postmarked no later than September 15th, 2005 to:
