Looking for essays for a two-volume series on depictions of childhood and adolescence in
international cinema. We encourage theoretical and multidisciplinary approaches that include
serious scholarship in the following areas: cinema studies, children’s literature, adolescent
literature, and the history, psychology, and philosophy of childhood and adolescence. Essays should
offer close analyses of film texts from different national, transnational, historical, and multicultural
perspectives. Interested in different varieties of film: documentary, nonfiction, experimental, and

Topics may include but are not limited to:
Changing views and conceptions of adolescence, Poverty, Class, Sexuality,
Gender, Masculinity, Femininity, Diaspora and Exile, Conceptions of self, Law, Narrativity,
Friendship, War, Politics, Environmental and ecological issues, Adolescence and childhood in
relation to social institutions including (but not limited to): church and religion, family, school, work
