CHARCOAL CANONS

Race and Faith in African American Literature

Call for Submissions

As chords of a song are composed of very specific notes that create a
recognizable sound to those who are familiar with music, so has most forms
of African American literature, even the most diametrically opposed works,
created similar "sounds" in their discourse on race and faith.

CHARCOAL CANONS is an edited volume of essays that will present prolific
commentary from the academic, literary, and religious communities on the
impact of both race and faith in African American Literature and the
dialogue that has resulted from a subtle (or not so subtle) exploration
through fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry. Submissions can vary from
an examination of specific works and authors to a general analysis and must
be 800-1500 words in length.

The collection's tentative publication date is July 2006. All submissions
must be postmarked by January 15, 2006.
