"Working With 'Real Readers': Case Studies and Methodological Challenges in American Literature." This panel will contemplate the definition of "real readers" as we work toward an interdisciplinary understanding of the work of reception study in the American context. We invite both individual case studies of reception and discussions of the particular issues confronting the scholar of historical or contemporary reception of American literature. Discussions of international reception of American literary works particularly solicited, as are case studies from Early American literature. Send abstracts or completed papers and a brief c.v. by January 15, 2006 to: Amy L. Blair Assistant Professor of English amy.blair_at_marquette.edu Department of English, Marquette University PO Box 1881 Milwaukee, WI 53201-1881 E-mail submission of documents as Word attachments preferred. As the ALA acts primarily as a conduit for panels organized by affiliate organizations, papers accepted for a RSA panel will be assured of acceptance by the ALA. However, No-one may present more than one paper at an ALA conference. It is possible to present a paper and chair another panel or panels and also participate in a round-table discussion. For more information about the ALA and its conference policies, visit www.americanliterature.org, or e-mail the conference director, Professor Alfred Bendixen of California State University, Los Angeles at abendix_at_calstatela.edu with specific questions.
