Please submit a one-page abstract and a one-paragraph vita in order to be considered for the James Dickey Special Session at SAMLA, November 10-12, 2006. The annual conference will be held at the Hilton Charlotte Center City in Charlotte, NC. The topic of this special session will be “James Dickey as Literary Critic.”

Papers may address any aspect of Dickey’s work as a literary critic, including views he expressed in a broad range of prose genres: reviews, essays, speeches, interviews, letters, and journals. Papers may discuss Dickey’s philosophy of creativity, language, and composition; his system of criteria as a critic; and the application of his philosophy and criteria in his own writing. Papers also may explore Dickey’s success or failure as a critic and the degree to which he shaped literary tastes and movements during his time and after. Papers will be considered for publication in the James Dickey Newsletter.
