Annual Convention of the Midwest Modern Language Association, November 9-12,
2006 in Chicago, Illinois.

In keeping with the informal theme of this year's MMLA conference ("High &
Low Culture"), we are seeking submissions for a proposed special section
entitled "Highbrow and Low-down: The Novels of Ishmael Reed." This special
session will not only explore various ways in which Reed's novels appear to
disregard traditional divisions between "high" and "low" culture, but also
ways in which these novels fashion cultural critique from the detritus of
popular culture.

Please send abstracts of approximately 250 words to either Justin St.Clair
(justin-stclair_at_uiowa.edu) or Steven Almquist (steven-almquist_at_uiowa.edu).
Deadline for submission is April 15th, 2006.
