Extended Deadline for SASA Paper Proposals: December 20, 2006.

This joint meeting of the Southern American Studies Association with the
5^th Annual Living Blues Symposium offers the unique opportunity of a
truly interdisciplinary meeting, bringing together scholars of
literature, culture, and music with musicians, radio industry insiders,
and fans of the blues. The conference will consider ways in which
literature and music shape the living cultures of the global,
post-regional South. Topics include musical, cultural, and literary
articulations of diverse populations living in the U.S. South, the
Caribbean, Africa, and the hemispheric South. As always, however, any
proposal in American Studies will be considered.

The conference will take place in Oxford, MS at the University of
Mississippi: February 14 - 18, 2007

Invited speakers and performers include: Farah Griffin, Wanda Coleman,
Gayle Wald, Denise LaSalle, and Di Anne Price.

Please submit a paper proposal of 250 words to *Annette Trefzer*,
