(Re)Considering Mario Puzo: His Life and Works

Voices in Italian Americana is a semi-annual literary
and cultural review devoted to the dissemination of
information concerning the contributions of and about
Italian Americans to the cultural and art worlds of
North America.

We invite submissions of critical essays from scholars
on the texts of Mario Puzo to be published in a
special issue in the Fall of 2008.

We are especially looking for contributions that deal
with a variety of Puzo's novels. We welcome a
diversity of approaches--comparative, aesthetic,
social, political, cultural, feminist, and the
like--that examine the role of Puzo's work in relation
to Italian American literature, broader multi-ethnic
literature, and/or the traditional American fiction

While there exists a body of criticism on The
Godfather and considerable admiration for The
Fortunate Pilgrim, little work has been done on Puzo's
other novels or on his career as a whole. With this
special issue, in addition to a reconsideration of The
Godfather, we'd like to invite a wider discussion of
Puzo's work and influence.

Submission deadline: August 1, 2007.
