Call for Papers

The Anthony Powell Society invites submissions for its annual journal,
Secret Harmonies. The journal’s aim is to perpetuate and celebrate
Powell’s work by publishing essays, articles and reviews on Powell, his
life, work and connections with his contemporaries by academics and
enthusiasts alike.

Anthony Dymoke Powell was born in 1905 and is now most famous for his
epic twelve-volume novel sequence A Dance to the Music of Time.
Throughout his lifetime, Powell not only produced fiction but was also
active as editor and reviewer. The journal welcomes contributions in
particular on Powell’s pre-war work or his journalism but also, of
course, his main work, Dance. We also welcome contributions that assess
the link between Powell and his literati contemporaries, for example
Evelyn Waugh, Grahame Green, Henry Green, George Orwell etc.

Contributions can be up to 8,000 words in length, should be in British
spelling throughout and adhere to the MLA style. They should be sent
electronically to the journal’s editors,
Stephen Holden,
Dr. Nick Birns,
Dr. Christine Berberich,

Deadline for the autumn 2007 issue is September 7th, 2007; later
submissions will be considered for the 2008 issue.
