The Science Fiction and Fantasy session of the South Central Modern
Language Association will be held in San Antonio, Texas, during the
convention dates of November 6-8, 2008. Papers should have a reading
time of no more than twenty minutes (i.e., about ten pages double-
spaced). Papers or abstracts should be submitted to me, as chair, by
March 14, 2008. My deadline for submitting a program to the SCMLA office
is April 4, so I will reply with all acceptances and rejections about
that date. The program can hold four papers. (The number of proposals
has varied greatly in recent years, but usually no more than ten come in--
and certainly sometimes less.) No theme or assigned approach is required
this year. The science fiction and fantasy need not be standard fiction;
papers on movie and TV forms are common, and some papers have be given on
graphic novels. In theory (although I don't recall an example), SF
and/or fantasy poetry is also acceptable as a topic. Send the proposals
to Joe R. Christopher, English Department, Box T-0300, Tarleton State
University, Stephenville TX 76402 or submit by email at
<jchristopher_at_tarleton.edu>. Also write me either way if you have queries
about any details.
