UPDATE: [20th] Contemporary American Women Writers Representing Masculinities (Deadline 3/20 RMMLA Reno 10/9-10/11)
Papers that address ways in which contemporary American women writers are constructing and/or â€¨
critiquing masculinities in their work. Such analyses may examine popular women's literature, such â€¨
as Chick Lit or its derivatives, or more 'literary' work. Papers should look at how women writers are â€¨
representing masculinities and how this may be influencing contemporary American women's â€¨
writing, new visions of femininity, understandings of nationalism, etc.
Subtopics may include:
Masculinity and nation â€¨Distinct American masculinities â€¨White masculinity â€¨Ethnic masculinities â€¨Gay
masculinities â€¨Feminist theory/ masculinity studies â€¨Post-feminist theories â€¨Consumerism and
fashioning femininity â€¨Men as consumable objects/ accessories â€¨Transgender
