This session welcomes proposals that address issues of borders (either
physical or conceptual), migration, transnationalism, and travel in
20th/21st century Francophone literature. How has the contemporary
experience of mass migration contributed to the erasing of borders? How
have migrant writers re-defined their literary identities and re-shaped
literary canons? What are the limits and possibilities of migrant writing
to intervene in society on socio-economic and political levels? What is the
role of ethics in narratives of border-crossing, cosmopolitanism, and
globalization? What kinds of communities are created across borders? In
what ways do fictional works encourage readers to cross over borders,
challenge boundaries, and reassess their affiliations?

By May 15, 2008, please submit a 300-word abstract to Oana Sabo, University
of Southern California, at osabo_at_usc.edu.
