Call for Papers: PUNK and POSTMODERN/CONSUMER CULTURE
2009 Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Association
Proposals are now being accepted for the Punk and Postmodern/Consumer
Culture Area. Papers for this area will examine Punk and its influence on
postmodern/consumer culture and vice versa. Writers are encouraged to
explore punkâ€™s relationship to mediums other that music. Papers on punk and
comics, movies, music, and novels will be considered.
30th Annual Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico
February 25-28, 2009
The 2009 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico
at the Hyatt Regency downtown.
â€¢Priority Submission and Registration: Nov. 15, 2008.
â€¢Final Submission Deadline: Dec. 1, 2008.
â€¢Conference Registration: Dec. 31, 2008 (all participants must be
registered by this date!).
Suggestions for topics include but are not limited to the following:
â€¢ The punk and its influence on culture and fashion
â€¢ The sell(out) of punk
â€¢ Kurt Cobain
â€¢ The rhetoric of Punk
â€¢ Punk and philosophy
â€¢ Punk and postmodern identity theory (Lacan's Fiction of Self)
â€¢ Anarchist theory and punk rock
â€¢ Politics of Punk rebellion revolution reform
â€¢ The works of William Gibson and other Cyber-punk authors
â€¢ The works of Poppy Z. Brite and other splatter-punk authors
â€¢ Punk and comics such as Transmetropolitan, Tank Girl, The Invisibles, and
Abstracts of 100-250 words and/or questions may be sent to Bryan L. Jones
