CALL FOR PAPERS: THE WOMAN QUESTION IN THE CONTEMPORARY INDIAN ENGLISH WOMEN WRITINGS (DEADLINE FOR PAPERS: JULY 31, 2009)
CALL FOR PAPERS:
Women are an integral part of human civilization. No society or country can ever progress without an active participation of women in its overall development. Although, the place of women in society has differed from culture to culture and from age to age, yet one fact common to almost all societies is that women have never been considered the equal to men. They have been treated like a beast of burden and an object of pleasure, and denied full justice – social, economic, political and constitutional and largely ignored as the weaker sex. However, with the increasing awareness of injustice done to them slowly made women raise their voice against inequality and oppression. In recent times, the question of the relative status of man and woman has often engaged the attention of the writers all over the world. Indian English Writers have also begun to come out into light on the contemporary literary scene. They have directly plunged into the world of the newly confronting situations from the point of view of woman and the complex dilemmas of the modern world with confidence, sincerity and courage, and with the remarkable felicity of language.
The proposed anthology is intended to explore the "Woman Question" raised by contemporary Indian English Women Writers. Interested scholars are requested to submit a 200-250 words abstract along with short bio through e-mail as MS Word attachment to Dr. Indu Swami at induswamionline_at_yahoo.com latest by June 30, 2009.
