WE HAVE EXTENDED THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION TO MAY 20, 2009
Call for Papers: Feminist Pedagogy Conference November 6, 2009
The Third Feminist Pedagogy Conference seeks participants for a day-long conference entitled The Praxis of Feminist Pedagogy
Keynote Speaker: Michelle Fine
The Conference will take place on Friday, November 6, 2009, at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City.
The Feminist Pedagogy Conference is a venue for conversation between scholars and activists across disciplines around the present state of feminist pedagogy and work on gender, both within and beyond the academy. Building on previous work, this is a forum to share pedagogical methods and ideas for teaching in women and gender studies and/or feminist approaches to learning and classroom strategies in various disciplines. Our aim is to address issues of gender and sexuality, in conjunction with race and class, both inside and outside of the academy.
We invite submissions for individual papers, panels, and roundtable discussions that examine the role of feminist theory within current and possible pedagogical practices. These practices might take place in the classroom, in curricular development, or in community outreach. Examples of panel topics that might be addressed include, but are not limited to:
Desire in the classroom
What is a feminist syllabus?
Teaching sexual violence/Addressing sexual trauma
Social Justice, Activism, and Transformative Politics: Bridging the Divide between the Academia and Community
Queering Feminist Pedagogy
Sex Education in policy and practice
Interrogating Feminist Histories
Post-colonial Interventions in Women's Studies
Transnational Feminist Activism, Politics and Solidarity
