The Act of Shifting Borders in the Identity Politics
GlorĂa AnzaldĂșa uses the term mestizaje to describe the embodiment of simultaneous identities and the inherent contradictions for women writers and theorists in belonging to multiple cultures at the same time. The borders that separate these identities perpetually change, reflecting the continual shift that marks identity politics. How do these borders create a cultural identity that transcends the notion of multiple, split cultures? How do cultural borders affect race, class, gender, nationality and ethnicity?
