1st call for papers: The 16th Annual Postgraduate Symposium of the School of English, Media and Performing Arts will be held at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Thursday 15 October and Friday 16 October 2009.

This year EMPA invites papers from the disciplines of English, Music, Film, Dance, and Performing Arts that engage with the theme of "crisis."
We seek proposals that engage the idea of "crisis" on either a conceptual, representational, socio-political structural level. We invite papers or performances that respond crisis, be it a creative response to a socio-political problem, critique of the principles of form and structure, a reflection methodology and criticism within the academy today, or reflections the idea of crisis as part of creativity itself. The two-day symposium will feature a plenary panel on the critical tensions between theory and praxis. The panel will feature special guests from the range of disciplines studied within the school.
