Panels are now being formed for the 31st annual meeting of the Southwest-Texas American Culture Association-Popular Culture Association in the area of the Beat Generation and Counterculture(s). The conference is an excellent place to meet people in your area of work and for gives graduate students a space in which to showcase your research and receive constructive feedback. This year, thanks to suggestions from previous participants, we have increased the audio-visual resources available to presenters to include: digital video projector, VCR/DVD player and stereo speakers in each presentation room along with wireless internet access at Phil's cybercafé.
Possible topics include but are not limited to:

Beat Culture and the Cold War
The Beats in Popular Culture
Women in the Beat Generation
African American Beats
Beat Appropriation of African American Culture
Moral Crisis of the Cold War and the Beat Generation
1960s Counterculture (Hippies)
Countercultural conflicts over race and gender
Utopian communities of dissent both physical and discursive
Conservative Counterculture(s) of the postwar period
Literary Narratives of Counterculture and Utopianism
