Call for Papers: "Fashion and Aesthetics" Panel
RMMLA Conference in Reno, NV, October 9-11, 2008

This panel welcomes submissions for papers that engage the relationship
between fashion and art, broadly conceived. It is open with respect to
genre and period, though we are particularly interested in papers that
address the following issues:

- Fashion and theories of art
- Fashion and beauty
- The boundary between art and fashion
- Interactions between artists and the “fashion world”
- Intersections of fashion and art in periodical culture
- Dress, consumer culture, and art
- Art, Artists, and self-fashioning
- Dress, class, and “taste”
- Gender, dress, and art
- Fashion’s role in artistic identity and culture
- Fashion as a language or sign system
- The aesthetics of fashion
- Aesthetic bases for the study of fashion

By March 8th, please send 250-300 word proposals and short bio to
