 Call for Papers: Film Theory
Area

2010 Southwest/Texas Popular
Culture/American Culture Association

31st Annual
Conference February 10-13, 2010

 

The 2010 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in
Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Join us next spring, as
a returning or first-time participant, at this regional popular culture
conference that draws an international roster of participants. Further details
regarding the conference (listing of all panel areas, hotel, registration,
tours, etc.) can be found at http://www.swtexaspca.org.  A number of graduate student awards are
given each year, and graduate student travel grants are also available.

 

Proposals are now being sought for review in the Film
Theory Area
. Review begins
immediately and continues until December 15, 2009.
 Listed below are some
suggestions for possible presentations, but topics not included here are also welcome:

 

  • Precinema and its influence on film theory
  • Qu’est-ce que le cinema? Classical Film Theory and
    its Discontents
  • Montage and Editing/ Practice as Theory
  • Walter Benjamin/Mechanical Reproduction
  • Apparatus Theory
  • Spectatorship and Stars
  • Auteur Theory
  • Semiotics, Psychoanalysis, Feminism, and Beyond
  • Genre Theory
  • Theories of Third Cinema
  • Emerging theories of film in the digital age
  • Intersections of Film Theory and cultural, literary,
    or fine arts theory

 

Inquiries regarding this area and/or abstracts of 250
words may be sent to Jennifer L. Jenkins at the email address below no later
than December 15, 2009. Please include a current curriculum vitae and a working
bibliography for your paper.  NOTE:
Early submissions qualify for priority (reduced) registration fees until
November 1, 2009.
