Proposals are now being accepted for the Rhetorics of New Media Area. The term “New Media” generally refers to digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the latter part of the 20th century to the present. Listed below are some suggestions and thought questions for possible presentations, but topics not included here are also welcome.

●Following the 31st Annual Conference Theme within New Media (How do users of new media create a science fiction/fantasy identity on MySpace, Facebook, etc...?)
●Youth Culture (How do cell phones change the way young people use language to act, talk, and/or influence others?)
●The Information Age (How does Wikipedia or YouTube help or hinder the creation of knowledge?)
●Identity (How do users of MySpace or Facebook use language/images to construct an online identity?)
●Internet Slang (How do emoticons change the way people use language?)
●Globalism (How are social relationships stabilized or transformed by internet communications?)
●Media Convergence (How are people’s perceptions and discourse strategies shaped by converging media?)
●Gaming (What systems of knowledge or ways of knowing are relevant to new gaming experiences?)

The 2010 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Hyatt Regency, 330 Tijeras, Albuquerque, NM 87102 (505)842-1234.

•Priority Submission and Registration: November 01, 2009.
•Final Submission Deadline: December 15, 2009.
•Conference Registration: Dec. 31, 2009 (all participants must be registered by this date!).

Inquiries regarding this area and/or abstracts of 250 words may be sent to either of the two email addresses listed below (in the subject line of your email please type “Rhetorics of New Media Area Abstract” or “Rhetorics of New Media Inquiry.”) Graduate students/future teachers are particularly welcome to participate or register to attend the conference.
