(Oscar Awards) to cinema (The Devil Wears Prada or Marie Antoinette) to musi=

(Madonna) to the art world (artist, artwork, critic, art dealer, consultant,=
 =20
collector, auctioneer, curator, museum director) to photography (Richard=20
Avedon) to printed media (Vogue) to World Wide Web (Gucci) to Wall Street=20=
to =E2=80=9C
street culture=E2=80=9D=E2=80=94to name only a few iconic instances of styl=
e and the costume=20
arena. In being so, apparel remains to be analyzed either on its own as an=20
aspect of design and aesthetics through its formalism and historicity, or=20
sociologically in relation to the "high/low" polarities of the past or pres=
ent,=20
from such perspectives as =E2=80=9Cclass,=E2=80=9D =E2=80=9Cethnicity=E2=
=80=9D or =E2=80=9Cgender,=E2=80=9D often unfolding=20
paradoxical cultural phenomena. Proposals that attempt to either historiciz=

or critically examine aspects of fashion within specific or broader context=
