EXTENDED DEADLINE -- Abstracts due: Wednesday, March 3rd at 5pm

Keynote Speaker: Sheila Murphy, Assistant Professor of Screen Arts and Cultures, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Graduate students from UCI and beyond are invited to submit paper proposals on any topic for the Visual Studies Working Papers Conference to be held on March 12, 2010. While inherently open and interdisciplinary in nature, the conference will present a special panel and film screening in honor of the late Anne Friedberg, co-founder of UCI's Ph.D. Program in Visual Studies.The conference aims to provide a forum for various methodological and theoretical approaches. We welcome submissions of completed projects and works-in-progress dealing with topics that fall under the purview of Visual Studies, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

* film and media studies
* art history
* architectural/urban/planning history
* feminist and queer theory
* cultural studies
* anthropology
* sociology
* philosophy
* political science
* literary theory and criticism
* the history of science and medicine
* economics
* gender studies
* critical theory

We invite proposals for 15-20 minute presentations that address these issues through any medium, from any discipline. An abstract of 250 to 500 words should be sent to: vs2010@post.com
