[UPDATE] PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF POPULAR CULTURE: SPACES AND CONTEXTS. 4th International SELICUP Conference 20-22 Oct 2010

As previously announced, the IV SELICUP conference Past, Present and Future of Popular Culture: Spaces and Contexts will be hosted by the Department of Spanish, Modern and Classical Languages at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) on 20-22 October 2010. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 15 May 2010.

The following keynote speakers have confirmed their participation:

Prof Paul Julian Smith (University of Cambridge): “The continuing localism of youth culture in Spanish TV and film”

Dr Josephine Dolan (University of the West of England): “Firm and Hard: old age, the ‘youthful’ body and essentialist discourses”

Dr Slávka Tomášciková (Pavol Jozef Šafárik University, Košice, Slovakia): “The past and present narrative spaces of Slovak television”

Prof Antonio Raúl de Toro Santos (Universidade da Coruña): to be announced

Dr José Manuel Estévez Saá (Universidade da Coruña): to be announced

Dr Margalida Pons Jaume (Universitat de les Illes Balears): to be announced

The conference venue will be the Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos Building, on the UIB Campus (Cra. Valldemossa, km. 7.5, Palma de Mallorca). Further information, including accommodation and travelling tips, can be found on the conference website (www.selicup2010.org). The deadline for the submission of proposals is 15 May 2010. Registration will shortly be made available. The official conference languages will be English, Spanish and Catalan.

The Organising Committee has designed a programme of social and cultural events that includes an official reception (20 Oct), a guided tour through Palma’s historic centre (21 Oct), an institutional conference dinner (22 Oct), and a half-day trip to some of Majorca’s most beautiful spots (22 Oct). Further details will soon be provided.
