Migration and Terror (6/1/10; 11/4-11/7/10)
How do terror and migration intersect? This session seeks papers that explore ways in which migration is shaped or defined by the experiences or rhetoric of terror. How are discourses of terrorism and immigration linked? How do experiences of terror affect processes of immigration, asylum, and exile? How are our understandings of diaspora and globalization shaped by the language or institutions of security? All geographical, temporal, and generic foci welcome.
This panel is a Special Session at the Midwest Modern Language Association's 2010 Convention in Chicago, November 4-7, on the theme of Terror. Please send 250-word abstracts to Kristin Pitt, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, firstname.lastname@example.org by June 1, 2010.
