Fantastic Histories: One of the first protests that tends to arise with any new film,
television show, or video game dealing with the historical past is the common cry of "But it's so inaccurate!" Yet, as many critics of popular culture have noted, ending the examination with that assessment of inaccuracy is completely reductive and unproductive. Such a dismissal can lead to a subsequent ignorance of the fascinating consequences of the creator's choice to include such departures from accepted versions or histories. Topics may include, but are not limited to: current needs for particular medieval worlds, revisionist histories and their ideologies, the influence of earlier medievalist texts, and the intersection of medievalism and theory. Please send 250-500 word abstracts to Lauryn Mayer at lmayer@washjeff.edu
