Geocritical New England
This panel will explore fictional landscapes of New England, particularly in their vexed relationships to the actual geographies negotiated by inhabitants of New England. Possible topics include but are not limited to: colonial accounts of 'new' land; the relationship between transcendental nature studies and growing nineteenth century industrialization; the role of local color and regionalist writing in shaping national perceptions of New England. Papers dealing with any historical period welcome. Submit 300 word abstracts, by September 30, to Rachel Collins at email@example.com.
