Panels now forming on topics related to all areas of magical realism and its connections to popular culture.
Special Areas of Interest Include:
Marquez, Borges, Calvino, Ecco, Rushdie, Morrison, Erdrich, Arundhati Roy, Foer, Jeffrey Eugenides, Marc Z Danielewski, Esquivel, Northern Exposure, Ally McBeal, Eli Stone, Being John Malkovich, The Lovely Bones, House of Leaves, Faulkner and magical realism, Welty and magical realism, gothic and magical realism, postmodernism and magical realism, movies and magical realism, tv and magical realism, poetry and magical realism, folklore and magical realism, religion and magical realism, drama and magical realism, defining magical realism in the context of popular media.
Scholars, teachers, professionals, and others interested in magical realism are encouraged to participate. Graduate students are also particularly welcome.
If you wish to form your own magical realism focused panel, I would be glad to facilitate your needs (Panels focused on one particular work or author/director are especially encouraged). Also, if your work does not focus on magical realism but fits within the broad range of areas designated for the upcoming conference on American & Popular culture, I still encourage you to participate. Please pass along this call to friends and colleagues.
