Southern Illinois University-Carbondale English Graduate Conference
The Association of English Graduate Instructors and Students (AEGIS*) at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale is currently accepting proposals for the 5th annual AEGIS conference on April 2, 2011 in Carbondale, IL.
In 1965, Alfred Hitchcock observed, "Television is like the invention of indoor plumbing. It didn't change people's habits. It just kept them inside the house." He reminds us that we live in a time in which change is a cliché. This year’s conference theme "Challenging Traditions in English Studies" asks us to explore the tensions and boundaries of this “cliché.” During the conference, we would like to consider new and established traditions and the ever-evolving shape of English. Proposals will be accepted in any of the following areas:
Literature, Literary Criticism and Theory, Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, and English Pedagogy.
We welcome all forms of scholarship and creative writing that apply to this year’s theme. While the AEGIS conference is organized to meet the needs of graduate students, we welcome contributions from academics of all levels. Send abstracts or creative writing samples, limited to 500 words, to Tony M. Vinci at firstname.lastname@example.org or the physical address listed below. Please let us know if you are interested in chairing a session.
Proposals are due by December 17, 2010 and should include participant’s name, institutional affiliation, email, phone number, and a proposed title.
*AEGIS is a professional graduate student organization in English concerned with all matters relating to the professional, academic, and general welfare of its members as instructors and students in the Department of English,
