Music Discourse Power (17-19 March 2011); submissions: 31 December 2010
Music will be the starting point for this international conference, which aims to adopt and to explore a transdisciplinary attitude, following two main lines of approach. On the one hand, to identify, define and reflect upon the various types of verbal discourses – linguistic, literary, political, philosophical, among others – and examine their diverse relationship to music. On the other hand, and building on this relationship, to characterize it through the concept of power, analysing the various types of power (emotional, aesthetic and political) that music possesses, both individually and/or in association with other forms; namely the power itself of music in the formation and transformation of discourses.
Invited Keynote Speakers:
Professor Christopher Ricks (Boston University, USA)
Cécile Prévost-Thomas (Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne)
Professor Mário Vieira de Carvalho (Universidade Nova de Lisboa)
