Gertrude Stein and her Material Present (ALA Boston May 26-29, 2011. Submission deadline January 15, 2011)
The Gertrude Stein Society seeks papers dealing with Stein's work as it attempts to engage the problems and questions of her material present. Areas of focus might include her attention to either or both world wars; the American women's movement; race, ethnicity, and/or sexuality as constitutive factors of her own and/or her contemporaries' subjectivities; or other issues of her time and place/s in lived history. Papers that approach material history through discussion of the terms or ideology of a particular genre, such as autobiography, drama, or narrative, are of particular interest. Please send abstracts (300-500 words) and a cv to Amy Moorman Robbins at Hunter College, CUNY. Email Amy.Robbins@hunter.cuny.edu. Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2011.
