CFP: "Reinventing Sublimity, Reinventing Beauty" (ICR 2011; proposals due March 1; conference date November 3-5, 2011)

This CFP aims to assemble a special session for submission to the 2011 International Conference on Romanticism, "Reinventing Romanticism," to be held in Montreal on November 3-5, 2011.

"Reinventing Sublimity, Reinventing Beauty" seeks to bring together papers that revisit and reimagine the relationship between Romantic literature and the sublime and the beautiful. Broadly conceived, this CFP means to include topics such as the following:

--engagements with the sometimes-neglected category of beauty in the Romantic age
--fresh looks at traditional loci of the sublime in the literature of the era
--how Romantic-age writers "reinvented" the ancient and modern conceptions of the sublime and the beautiful they inherited
--the politics of the sublime; or the politics of beauty
--perspectives on the sublime and the beautiful from beyond literature and the arts
--Romanticism and the postmodern sublime
--reexaminations of canonical critical works on the Romantic sublime

Please send 500-word abstracts and brief curricula vitae to:

The deadline for abstracts is March 1. The complete panel will be submitted to the conference organizers by March 15. The program will be unveiled by April 1. In the event that the proposed special session cannot be accommodated, individual paper proposals will be considered separately.
